Deer-Ly Departed - Poem by Tony Jolley

Just before: it saw.
Just perhaps, it knew.
But in that fatal, final second
Did it think like me and you?

Just before: it saw.
I hope to God it knew,
That in that frantic, braking battle
I’d done all that I could do.
