Den Joe Poem by Francis Duggan

Den Joe

He's been driving trucks on the roads of Duhallow
For years and years long as I can recall
Bred and raised in Millstreet Town where he's still living
And in Millstreet he is known by one and all.

His cousins John and Toots and Teddy Kelleher
Were famed as men who played gaelic football
But Den Joe never played sports as a young man
Even though he did seem strong enough and tall.

A character in his own right is Den Joe
I've known him since I was a schoolgoing boy
He is blessed with a splendid sense of humour
And the challenges of life he does enjoy

He is known by everyone who lives in Millstreet
And in Duhallow he's known far and wide
For he has driven on every road and by-road
That winds around that green old countryside
