Depression Poem by Aaron Julien

Depression

What do you know about depression?
Tear stained thighs and inner lies
Walls closing in from every direction
Heart beating to the pace of your sorrow
Not knowing what's gonna happen tomorrow

What do you know about depression?
Even your favorite things cannot bring you joy
When your very existence is nothing but a question
Every pore on your body raises, happiness begging to escape
Thoughts flooding your head making you quake

What do you know about depression?
Solitude and isolation with your chin on your knees
Begging for time to stop, please, God, please
That feeling in your throat like you're about to choke
Digging into your skin, your own humanity, broke

What do you know about depression?
No one can help you, you're in this by yourself
It's a fight between your emotions you cannot afford to lose
Hiding behind a smile and happy gestures
No one knowing what you're going through

What do you know about depression?
Is it an illness or a state of mind?
It's a little bit of both with your freedom always confined
Impossible to overcome, it will forever exist
Find your true love and I promise it will assist

An insightful depiction of the deplorable state of life at its lowest ebb - depression, the loss of sunshine in one's life; well articulated and nicely brought forth with conviction. Thanks for sharing Aaron.

The repetition of do you know about depression? Then you went in to slay what it is in each stanza and how your take on its definition varied was just exhilarating. But at the same time I really hope you overcome yr depression... u are a great poet and I look forward to reading more of yr pieces. I bid u all the best Anita

I really wanted to emphasize and bring attention to it yk. Many people go through it, but not many people like to open up about it. I wrote this straight from my heart in hopes people similar to me would be able to relate. Thank you for reading, more to come.

Wow, wonderful expression about depression. But the sweet part is that all things happen in life for a reason, Never out of God's season... Whatever made you depressed love, use it as a catalyst to fuel you into writing more. Keep up the good work, :)

Thank you so much. I plan to do exactly that. I too strongly believe in destiny and we're all put here for a higher purpose so whatever happens I know I'll get past.
