Des Villes, Des Bien-Aimes.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Jusqu'a mon nom;

Batir, ou qui vous aimiez;
Vous leur demandez de vous
Emmener irrevocablement,

Oblige, neanmoins, d'agir
Comme si ce que vous avez accepte
Vous a ruine, en effet;
Et plus sage de s'abstenir
De penser que vous pouviez encore tracer
Non pas necessaire jusqu'a ce jour
Votre personne, votre ville.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It was special to hear Philip Larkin reading this poem on a compact disc. His voice is electric.
He has never found the place where he feels it is his own and he would like to stay permanently; nor has he found a special lady who could share his life and possessions. He is so unsure of himself that he thinks he could ask her to take him away, so that it's not his fault if the place is boring, or'she is a dolt'.
He goes on to wonder how hard it is to find your true self and your true place to live. He is absolutely right about this complex question.

The poem has three octets (octaves) with the rhyme scheme: abcbdbdbd-intricate.
Philip Larkin never married, so he is writing from personal experience.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Good job! Check the grammar. The French language is not easy. Good try! C'est bon d'essayer. Je te felicite pour tes efforts.
