Did They All
the valentine beyond all seeming
appeared in an afternoon sky:
blue streamers
sun shaped like a heart
and the doves, fluttering.
was anyone wise
or tender, looking up
to see in the clouds slip from
their envelope, this
message arriving
or did they all
as if they were one flock of birds arising
gaze at their watches
at the same time
