Dino Poem by Francis Duggan

Dino

Rating: 5.0

He went back home to Italy to live out his twilight years
And in the pub party for him his friends farewelled him in tears
In this great Southern Country he made new friends every day
But Dino he has gone back home to greet the flowers of May,
Last year he retired from his job as a tram driver when he turned sixty five
The Latrobe to Bourke Street tram he never more will drive
He went back home to Milan where from his journey south began
To the old City in Italy where he lived as a young man,
For years a loyal supporter of the Collingwood Football Club
He will be missed from Fitzroy and his favourite local pub
And though he spoke English quite well his accent he did retain
Something of the Mother Country that in him did remain
But Dino in his sixties grew homesick for Milan
And he went back home to Italy for to live out his time span.
