Discreetly Cheating Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Discreetly Cheating

To be who one is to be,
Should be an acceptance.
And not an objection,
To conformity.
Whatever the 'normalcy',
Of that had meant to mean.
Many with nostalgic dreams,
Wishing to return...
To those covered wagon scenes.

And as time progresses,
With each step forward made.
As each century and decade passes.
With choices to choose,
From something new introduced...
On a frequent basis.
What is it these days,
People are objecting to?
Their ease of life?
Or the removal,
Of missed oil lit streets lights.
Producing darkened shadows on roads,
Upon which people then strolled...
Before sidewalks were created.

It can not be or maybe it is,
The diversity and quality of life.
Getting more obvious,
That most folks have begun...
Now to take for granted.
Leaving many too much time to find,
A passing of judgement...
Left preoccupying their minds.
To wonder who is doing what with who.
Choosing same sex partners in clear view.
And...
Caring less as time progresses,
Who gossips and whispers behind their backs.

Yet...
Those who whisper in ears to attract,
Live secret lieing lies...
Attempting to hide and be discreet.
About the cheating they do.
On their spouses, relatives, neighbors and friends.
To then proclaim,
How others should be ashamed of themselves!
After they have soiled heated wet sheets.

"I'll call you back later.
I'm having cable installed."

-Again?
At least twice every week,
This month!
You have had the same problem.-

"I know!

But so determined I am,
To get what I want my way.
Until I am left completely satisfied.
Gotta go.

These people,
I can't believe it.
For whatever the reason,
Each time I make an appointment,
More impatient 'they' become.
Knocking on my door.
As if I'm suppose to be,
Standing there waiting to be serviced."

-Well...
Do what you have to do.
Call me when they get through.-

"I will.
After we...
After I take a shower."
