Distasteful Bliss Poem by Terrance Mawanga

Distasteful Bliss

The break of dawn beckons,
To the refined tune of my heart's desire, i rise,
Enticed by the melliflous chirping of a bird afar,
Today is the day, i shout silently:
that i will beat the drum of my conquest like never before,
that i will annihilate permanently the relentless waves of negativity,
Before my eyes i envision perfection approaching,
The wild elation spurs my hot blood into an emphatic rhythm,
A sound that cuts well through the granules of time and thought,
And ecstatic ululations rise in a deafening course,
A forthcoming tribute to my ascend,
But then my error in perception, i see
At what price will i trade purity for prosperity,
To what depth will i dig to harvest brilliance,
Listen i do to the defiant refusal of my conscience,
As i gaze at the sky above like a mesmerised toddler,
I gather the resolve,
To harness nothing but the truth,
Only then can i brave the cold winds of winter,
And smile a genuine smile.
