Come Now, Child Poem by Terrance Mawanga

Come Now, Child

Rating: 4.5

On the wings like those of an eagle she craved to soar,
With the undeterred courage of a wild boar,
But you fell oh my darling child in a quest to find prosperity,
Now you are enveloped by the repulsive odour of poverty

The cemetery now waits impatiently for your flesh,
For your blood ceased long ago to be fresh,
When you were seduced by the rich man's essence,
And for a song, to these vultures you sold your innocence,

Thus they decimated mercilessly your feminine being,
Trampling over you body like some worthless thing,
Like two mutually overflowing rivers, they emerge,
At the very core of my existence the salty waters converge

For wasted you are and nothing of your soul is there to gather
Come now oh daughter, find solace in this bosom of thy mother,
Hold on to my hand ever so tight,
Together we will chase away that fearsome sight.

Reminds me of a woman that bore disappointment and pain But did not abandon or abort because the season gave no rain. The tempting sheep-coated hyena drags her into negligence, But the mother knows better and still holds her hands through all solace. BRAVO!
