Dactyls – according to encyclopaedic wise men –
though the staple of classical Grecian and Latinate tread,
are now comical – ‘only used humorously’… And yet, read
at a funeral pace, in solemnity, toll out the dead…

Perhaps Pterodactyls did write write in dactlyls and some literary critic shamed them into extinction.
