Dog Tired Revisited Poem by William Jackson

Dog Tired Revisited

Rating: 5.0

If you would come to me now,
now that the sweltering day is through;
the tick weed sparkles with dew,
and the dark night
beckons for moonlight.
If only you would come to me now.

If you would come to me here,
how methodically I would
kiss away all your sorrows
and twirl the delicate strands
of your flowing black hair
around my fingers; you could
rest your head
in my lap to watch the stars!
If only you would come to me here!

If I could spend this evening with you,
the breath, the life within me
yearns to be renewed
by your silken touch.

If you would come to me now,
I would spend the minutes as if
each might be the last moments of life.
I would steal you away
to savor you for myself.
