Downtown With Momma Poem by Walterrean Salley

Downtown With Momma

Rating: 5.0

Going downtown with Mamma
Was, oh, such a delight.
We lived in a rural area,
And rarely saw the light.

But betimes she’d gather all
And carry us along,
Like the mother hen she was—
Catering to her young.

The buildings were incredible
So huge and so tall,
Compared to us kids—
Little and so small.

Folks caught up in the rush
Of the daily grind.
Made a decent parking space
Very hard to find.

Mom would buy delicious treats:
Caramel and corn candy,
Which made our little outing
That much more the dandy.

And we did our very best
To not drive her insane,
So she wouldn’t think twice
About bringing us again.
