Dragon Fly Poem by Somanathan Iyer

Dragon Fly

In the rainy season
enveloped by clouds
signaling arrival of rains
dark becomes the sky
buoyed by the weather
swarms of dragon fly
glide over the fields
in different colors
and varied sizes
interesting is the
life cycle of dragon fly
hatched from eggs
under the waters
feeding on insects
and tiny fish
hatchlings spend
years in waters
much more than
than their life out of water
succumbing to the
usual lust of mating act
Perish the dragon fly
after seeding its breed
harmless they are
becoming tools of play
in the hands of
children in villages
young we were
in quest of new games
set to catch many a dragon fly
holding them by wings
when kept on sand
for their grip they
lift pebbles and stones
the holder of the fly
that lifts the bigger one
was the winner in any way
acknowledged by all
tendering apologies
to the race of dragon fly
I repent now for
troubling them
without an intent
