An Evening At Our Village Hills Poem by Somanathan Iyer

An Evening At Our Village Hills

A cloudy evening with chilly winds
Went for a stroll I with my pal
Beneath the hills bordering our village
Climate was beautiful surroundings wonderful
Splintered dark clouds hovering over our heads
Silver thin clouds moving over the horizon
Dark and bright colors on the skies above
playing game of hide and seek
Now and then a gentle breeze
leaving a feel of touch and go
the gushing waters in the nearby stream
making noise of sizzling sounds
lazy drizzles from shy clouds above
sprinkling rain drops here and there
a song of melody reaching from a far
at times clearly at times faded
through the winds coming through the places
the sound of trumpets from that side of the hill
sinking the melody at the will of the winds
the blossoming fragrance of vivid flowers
that crept on the trees and thorny bushes
gave us a feel of heavenly bliss
descending darkness signaling the nightfall
singing a song in praise of the day gone
birds in groups reaching their nests
the flutters of birds settling on the trees
allyaing fears of their babies in the nests
alighting from their hideouts
jackals in groups howling together
cautioning all to reach their homes
spellbound I was on the feature of the nature
a memory I cherish even after so many years
