Dream Lover - Poem by Scarlett Treat

I spent a lifetime
For you to arrive.
I knew you were coming...
I could feel you
In the very air I breathed.
I saw your shape
In the clouds I watched go by,
And in the ripples of water
when it rained.

You finally came...
What joy,
What bliss,
What love.

In the blink of an eye...
You were gone,
Lost to me,
As though you only existed
In my dreams.
And I remember you...
The smell of you
In the very air I breathe,
In the shape of the clouds
I watch go by,
And in the ripple of the tears
I cry.

I like the comparisons of the ripples of the rain and the ripples of your tears. This is such a sorrowful poem. Although the pain of loosing someone we ardour and love is great, it's much more painful and lonely to have never loved at all.

Such a beautifully sad poem Scarlett. To lose your love.....I hope to never experience. I loved your use of the ripples of water and the winds....just beautiful! Sincerely, Mary (Report) Reply

The quality I most admire in your poetry, Scarlett, is the economy of the language.
Yes, even this battle-scarred romantic, must merely dream of another forthcoming love to wend her way unto me. I thoroughly was caught up in the engaging piece. It really is quite beautiful.

The feeling of hopeful longing, longing fulfilled and that of loss is well-expressed, Scarlett... Like a dream, indeed. (Report) Reply

Scarlett love can be sweet right up to the end, but a love that fails is like a passing dream, remember it while it was good because you will always hold on to those memories.A great poem cheers Rosiexx (Report) Reply

Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all, springs to mind Scarlett. A loving write. Tai (Report) Reply

So poignant, Scarlett. How hard it is to accept a loss like that.
