Dreams And Aspirations Poem by Orlando Belo

Dreams And Aspirations

A Japanese gentleman in Tokyo
kept koi carp in an outdoor pond.
They all had beautiful colourings,
and they grew to be incredibly long.

On an inspection one Monday morning,
he noticed a change in two of his fish.
Their appearance had somehow changed
a great deal more than he would wish.

He noticed in the shade of a lotus leaf
that something was quite amiss.
Their tails were excitedly flapping,
as they were sharing a lengthy kiss.

At first, he couldn't believe his eyes,
but both fish now had a human face.
They were blowing bubbles as if talking,
and it most certainly looked out of place.

They spoke of their dreams and aspirations,
and a new life in a much larger pond.
The next few days a flood swamped the land
as though fate had waved a magic wand.
