Dress For War Poem by Ima Ryma

Dress For War

The U.S. Civil War began.
Ladies and gentlemen would dress
In finest, each woman and man,
To attend a battle address,
'Twixt and 'tween Richmond and D.C.
To watch the soldiers, blue and gray,
Perform their battle pageantry
On a warm and bright sunny day.
This dressing up for war did not
Be an occasion lasting long,
As some of the best dressed got shot.
A bullet riddled dress felt wrong.

Now, more casual wear does be
Worn while watching war on T.V.
