Early Morning Prayer Poem by Bernard F. Asuncion

Early Morning Prayer

Rating: 5.0

A-n early morning prayer
N-ourishes the soul and mind;
A-sking the Lord for a better day,
L-eaving the night chill behind.
I-mplore God to let the sun rise,
Z-enith awaits up above;
A-n early morning prayer will fill your heart with love.

R-ays in the wide blue sky
E-liminate the twilight;
M-idnight moon is gone,
O-ne flame is burning bright.
L-et December fifth dawn
A-llow you to think and ponder;
D-on't forget the Lord and say
O-ne early morning prayer.

Early morning prayers are really good for health and mind. Mind will be calm and serene at that hour. During the course of the day, mind begins to catch up high velocity around the time we rush to offices. Say, from 9 AM to 5 PM, mind hovers in a different sphere. Afterwards, it begins to wear off and slowly cool down. Evening prayers are also very good. We may try to remain in silence, getting away from the strides of the external world. The din of the world may be there but, inward silence can maintained through practice. The cooling off may begin around 6 PM and in my experience, it lasts for about three hours. If we can avoid the noisy world to a large degree, well and good. Human mind has its natural rhythm and day cycles. We must be aware of this. The general unrest which we see around us is mainly due to faulty cycles of our mind which we have created out of sheer ignorance or other external demands and influences. More than prayers what we actually need is contemplation in silence. That inner silence has to be invoked. Prayers are only thanksgiving to the Lord. Our mind needs more than that for its natural poise, rhythm and cycles. If possible, just sit on the courtyard of a church or on the sands of a beach. Those lashing waves and the sea and the open sky will show us the womb of the silence!
