Earthquake Poem by Elena Sandu

Earthquake

Rating: 4.5

We just had long long shakes
Magnitude (only) 4, the tv said
But at the south they had it hard
As big as 8.4!
Earthquake stopped but I'm still shaking, aah! !
Alone, trying to remember what to do
If there is hate inside my heart
sure to be for that:
I HATE EARTHQUAKES! !
Relax! have to stop my shake?
I am ok, husband and daughter too
I have to stop my shake and pray
To think of others
For lives not to be lost
Please people of Japan!
Quick! To a safe place
In time to get
Away from the tsunami waves!
Tv says will be 6m high!
I am ok, still shake a bit, but pray
For ones who had it hard!
Please! All Gods of all worlds!
Take anything you want
Just don't let people die!

I wrote this minutes after the earthquake, trying to relax, (I am alway scared of earthquakes) when I cliked go, found out the internet was gone and so the phone, but so far this was the only trouble that we had.
..How could anybody guess what happened? So many people gone.. Why? ! ! We had tsunami warnings! !
Now, like the whole world, I watch results of pain and rivers of tears I let run but only when alone.. when people are around I smile and say: It's going to be ok..

I was in the San Francisco earthquake in the ealy '90s; that was more like having a heart attack than I imagine having a heart attck would feel like. Some people are afraid of silly little things, for no obvious reason, like me and bats, snakes and spiders. But earthquakes should have everybody shuddering.

You have transferred the live experience of an earthquake and the panic it leaves in the minds of the affected in beautiful verse. Your concern over the safety of the worse affected is quite touching and your humaneness, quite visible! ! I invite you to read my poem- Earthquake!
