Ego Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Ego

Rating: 5.0

Over estimation,
self aggrandizement,
inflated thinking,
outward success, vain glory,
unreal publicity, meaningless luxury are the personality traits
in the vast domain of ego.
Unhealthy arrogance,
sense of superiority,
under estimation of other's ability,
belittling others, high consumerism are some of the immensely and intensely negative
manifestations that become
stumbling blocks in life
to move along.

Ego forces us to miss opportunity
to improve,
disconnects our real-self
from others, prevents us from listening to other's view points,
disenchants from accepting critical but essential feed backs
ravaging us devilishly.
Without it our lives may go on,
with it we are gone,
man and only man has ego
that kills foolishly.

Even weeds in a garden
may need some nutrition,
but ego grows faster and becomes
stronger without any nourishment.
If unrestricted,
it gives rise to rust of life,
destroys its brightness,
weakens its power
grossly affecting our ability
of impartial judgment.

Even a diamond has to be cut
and polished to display
its dazzling lustre.
In the same fashion,
ego is to be cut and lessened
to restore life's shiny lacquer
and glitter to make one luckier.

This can be achieved
by being persistently fair
and square
because any vain attribute
can not continue longer.
Vain glory may flower
but fruiting never occurs.

We should find our own flaws,
look for the good in others
and be less stern.
Living simply, expecting little,
an unassuming manner of life
is always good for every human.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
