Eid For A Child Is Freedom Poem by Freeyad Ibrahim

Eid For A Child Is Freedom

By Freeyad Ibrahim

Eid for a child equals freedom
He breaks the routine
It is permissible for him
to break a plate unpunished
It is permissible for him
to sleep at midnight and play.
For the first time in 12 months,
he eats lunch in the morning
Old people in the neighborhood
shake hands with him and smile in his face
He may sit with them respectfully
Everyone shakes hands with him
Some of whom he doesn't know
He receives visitors with his father
and gifts never seen before
He wears the best clothes
His daily expenses are doubled
He has full freedom to go out
and come back late
He visits places he has never visited before
Eid for the child is:
Freedom
Forgiveness
Another way of life
Breaking the boring routine

Everyone says to him
(Blessed be your Eid and happy days.)
Therefore, it is an unusual day,
And the child instinctively
longs for unusual things.
