Eligible Or Not Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Eligible Or Not

Many can vote.
And be provoked to do it done.
To predict and suggest,
A landslide victory to come.

However...
There are those who could care less,
About polls to follow.
Or who it is,
Addressing to impress.
With the best of speeches spoken.
Effective and to do,
Better than speechwriters expect.

Yet...
Eligible or not,
The ones who get to pick the winner,
Will neither be asked to count jellybeans.
Nor produce a valid I.D.
That qualifies them to be,
A registered Democrat.
Republican.
Or a portraying to display,
A wholesome, self-righteous...
Independent hypocrite!

Who will then hesitate.
Awaiting until the very last minute.
With a head bowed and tears to flow.
To announce that God had intervene.
With a choice to pick.
That is much more suitable,
To a selected demographic!
Then to explain how this decision,
Had been God's wish.
Regardless who may disapprove,
The smell of it!
