Elusive Peace Poem by Matthew Holloway

Elusive Peace

It's late at night and sleep evades me
I am drawn to thoughts of wild imaginings
Foolish fantasies and foolish dreams
Perhaps I am the jester of my own court
And you the queen so high upon
The unattainable throne before me
I work and craft my art to please
Blind to the true realisation of life
That such a love, desire, passion
Shall never be realised, sorrowful
Still like a play centre stage
Such a performance must go on
To fear the curtains fall, audience silence
To be in love, and to be all alone
Such thoughts play upon a restless heart
Denial of sleep and peace
Perhaps I see more than there is
Perhaps there is more to see
Alas in such sleepless nights as these
There is only ever such a thing
As a living dream
