Empty Nest Poem by Ray Hansell

Empty Nest

I hear the pounding of the rain
From a late winter's storm
While it's cold and wet outside
Inside our home it's cozy warm

There's a fire in the fireplace
A movie playing on TV
A big bowl of popcorn
Sits between you and me

Year's ago we dreamed of this
When it would be just us two
After many year's of waiting
That dream has finally come true

The kids are all gone now
Living on their own
It's just you and I
Alone, in our comfortable little home

Now the year's that lie ahead
Will be like the one's from our past
Filled with love, happiness and togetherness
That we know will forever last

If we're fortunate enough
To leave this earth together
Death as in life
Will be as unpredictable as the weather

But as long as your beside me
I'll stay right here with you
As you lead the way
Just like you have our whole life through
