En Faisant La Lecture Au Premier Ministre. (Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

En Faisant La Lecture Au Premier Ministre. (Translation) .

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Cohen is reading some of his poems to the Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau (1919-1984) . He is reading on the roof of the hostess's house. She is Nancy and she serves them lunch.
Pierre Trudeau made a favourable impression on Cohen: 'he was kind and powerful'. He invited Cohen to read him more and more poems. Trudeau was Liberal Party Prime Minister of Canada 1968-1979, and 1980-1984.
His son, Gary Trudeau, is Prime Minister right now.
Many sorrows befell Pierre Trudeau and Nancy later in life.
