Evening Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Evening

Rumbles and crumbles
As I walk into a maze of futures
Lofty, interlocking green mountains touching the sky
Oh, life is a mystery!

Wavy landscape, deep into the horizon
Is a zig-zag of emotions; the young are delirious
It's all narcotics in pursuit of happiness
Lives are lost, futures wasted

It's eventide, so it seems
Communities are on edge
Young peopl're commiting suicides
The elderly are but a warehouse full of forbidden pesticides

It's all Pompeii reloaded
@COP26, some were there for political jaywalking
That which held us together is no more; religion
No wonder even nature is rebelling.

Its eventide: we better wake up before it's too late!
