Every Ukrainian Will Tell You This - That They Need Their Serenity And Sanctity Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Every Ukrainian Will Tell You This - That They Need Their Serenity And Sanctity

Don't make our country to bleed
don't make our eyes to weep;
don't make our feet to run
don't make our families to die;

we were born here to live
we were born here to co-exist
we were born here to survive
we were born here to endure
we were born here to unite
we were born here to fight back;

we belong to our land
we belong to our family
we belong to our generations
we belong to our future
we belong to peace
we belong to compassion;

we do not want the war
we do not want to perish
we do not want to flee
we do not want to be refugees
we do not want to be homeless;

we are not here to get killed
we are not here for hatred
we are not here to face brutality
we are not here to wither
we are not here to face atrocities;

we are here to go on living
we are here to believe in tomorrow
we are here for solidarity
we are the people of this nation;

we expected compassion and empathy
we expected tolerance and kindness
we expected brotherhood and friendship
we expected humanity and humility.

we hoped you would give peace a chance
we hoped you would give mind an alteration
we hoped you would give heart a honor of sympathy
we hoped you would give war its closure and farewell
we hoped you would give life to revive its energy
we hoped you would give world a chance to exist in harmony.

but it is still not too late to admit life is not forever
it is not too late to admit lifespan is less than a hundred years
it is not too late to admit what is gained remains on this earth
it is not too late to admit no one can carry a penny to heaven
it is never to late to admit the world belongs to next generations
it is not too late to admit that life once lost is irrecoverable
it is not too late to stop the war and let life get back
to serenity and sanctity as that is Ukraine's birth-right and legacy.
