Expert Swimmer Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Expert Swimmer

He was the type of man children and dogs liked
And those that noticed this could be divided into two different minds - This could be the sign of a good character or this could be the sign of something malevolent - A cover for evil incarnate

Now what was it that when he was part of a group caused others to automatically acquiesce the leadership role to him?
In a restaurant making eyes at a pretty waitress

Taking a couple of turns around a cavernous blue-green pool half in daylight, half in dark
Making like a real life character half in daylight, half in dark
Competition after first and foremost excluding judgment on a real life character

That sunshine has the potential to hurt a façade that no one dares to pull down or otherwise reveal
The way the sunlight hits the water makes a promise feel like youth
That is a temporary promise, take advantage of it while you can

Oh but he had no choice but to let them break him into soundbites
What are you good at becomes the explanation for a possible void in who you are
But what are you really good at?

Not properly trained in the approach to life as a science
Benefitting from the courtesy extended based on gut tribal recognition and alpha invocation
But what are you really good at?
