Extend My Regards Poem by Abekah Emmanuel

Extend My Regards

Rating: 4.8

Tell them I said it, yes pick your pen and tell them!
Tell them life has not been easy at all in the city,
Waking up early at dawn, face smelling of yesterday,
We put on our usual dress, and sail into the sweat.

Tell them it is hope that fuels our vehicle of strength,
For even when we work a whole day, we know for sure
That the night shall imprison the brightness of the day
Or the sky shall release some redeeming drops of rain.

Tell them I miss the soup we used to prepare for supper,
And the oil that is often suspended and graced its surface,
Tell them hunger and thirsts are no more defining threats,
But good friend s whom I spend many hours of the day with.

Now tell them I will visit them at the end of the month,
When I have joyfully received my token for the hard labor,
And can safely afford my transportation back to the village,
Tell them I really miss home and they will see me soon.

A very moving story of one who has to be away from home working in a far away city, with no familiar faces around and no friends to confide and share the grief and joy! The story of someone under the grind of toilsome labour during daytime and restless sleep at night! Abekah..... Is it your own story? Somehow brave the hardships for a better tomorrow! A very nostalgic write! A 10
