Fabric Of This Quilt Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Fabric Of This Quilt

Whether to admit it.
Or ignore its existence.
The fabric of this quilt,
Created to have been made.
Is inlaid with racism.
Seen to observe.
Known and displayed.
In actions inflicted.
Although there are many,
Wishing to omit the facts of this.

History to re-write it.
To correct wrongs to make them right.
Diversity to accept without stereotypes,
Has yet to erase,
The truth that appears...
In broad daylight.

Whoever is offended,
By a reality that is...
Has lived their lives deluded.
Fearing truth to include it.

The fabric of this quilt.
And the strength upon it built.
Has a colorful mixture of diversity.
And those who wish it made,
Colorless and all white.
With a belief to perceive,
The sight of it would be greater.
Are those who wish their dependency,
Did not depend...
On a reality deceived,
With it wanted to have believed...
They alone weaved together a greatness known.
By undoing it shown.
To prove this they can do to achieve.
While blaming those whose backs they rode,
Sitting to receive,
A notoriety to claim it theirs independently.

Only fools would choose to expose,
Their ignorance, incompetence and stupidity.
And...
Here we are today.
Allowing ignorance. incompetence and stupidity,
Repeatedly accepted.
While a greatness and the promise of it,
Fades away from a pinnacle of possibilities.
Into an abyss of pretentious mental dysfunctions.
