Facilitators Poem by Julia Luber

Facilitators

As if it is up to ourselves to either Let or Not Let the power of this creature,
so different from us, so designed to be purely different, to either hypnotize
and intoxicate us or to somehow disable this force from happening and thereby
fulfilling something about its nature satisfy, fulfill, and be the true performance
of difference that it was meant to be. It is up to us. We control and allow the impact
of this difference. We either breath in the foods, the sensations and the language of
a culture that is different from our own, or we choose not to; somehow we close our eyes,
allow our ears to wax, and breath so as not to engage in the sense and sensuality of this
species: so purely different. We either choose to celebrate the difference and indulge the
difference and enhance the difference or there are those of us who want to make it simply
an indiscernible societal imposure, something not truly intrinsic, like a costume we put on
to be more and more like each other and so eventually becomes a uniform! And there
are people who do this all the time. They make uniforms out of what a man is and what
a woman is and consider who it is who is doing this the most….creating stereotypecasts
after all these years of trying to bless us with equal rights but honor and celebrate
our obvious differences just the same. Only people who want everyone to ultimately be
the same are guilty of enabling something about existence evaporate far before its time.
