Fairy Poem by Afzal Shauq

Fairy

The journey long
with broken heart
I take my rest.

Off in the distance
I suddenly hear
sweet singing...

it calls to me....
I possessed am drawn
in its direction

When I arrive
there before my eyes
Is she...

This vision
more fantasy than real.
with a face
more delicate than a doll

Her hair finer than silk
blown by the wind
and eyes so green
they would emeralds fade
My eyes must deceive
for she had wings
this vision of beauty
sitting among the flowers

I reached out
for just one touch
but as my hand neared
she flew away...

Becoming but a dream
that will forever haunt
Leaving just this song
upon the air...

Fairies come
But never stay
Nor be touched
by human hand
Fairies must go away
to live in fairyland

And since that day
As a dreamer
I search the world
for that sweet fairy.
