Faith Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Faith

There once was an astronaut floating among the stars.
He believed in nothing but the beating of his heart.
The intensity of the fire that burned within.
He saught a closer view of the sun.
The members of his vessel thought him crazy, leaving him to roam freely in his space suit while they returned home.
At that moment he forsaked his religion as he forged a new one with the sun, the moon now reflecting off the sheild of his helmet.
He fell in love with a star that quickly shot pass his existance.
Patiently awaiting its return.
He gravitated closer towards the sun, unable to slow himself down.
He saw how beautiful the other planets were.
If they would accept a stranger such as himself.
A rejection of everything that contradicted what he was taught while in school.
A constant search of needing to be apart of something.
An urgency that began to pour down as sweat beaded down his face.
His heart began to race. His eyes quickly veered towards the moon.
An eclipse of shadows began to take place.
The brink of oblivion inched closer.
The sun's fire tiptoeing, almost grabing him whole.
He closed his eyes, embracing the unthinkable.
Then suddenly a tidal wave of stars appeared.
Crashing against him. He opened his eyes in disbelief as he saw eyes, a face, and long flowing hair.
Pulling him away from the blaze.
Emotion gripped his face as he was overwhelmed with gratitude.
She paused his gesture with a smile
And the sweetest flutter of her heart
