Fallen Star

Poem by Selina Wright

One day a star fell down
from heaven to the Earth
it took the place of a ten year old girl
a girl full of mirth

She sparkled in her subjects
she dazzled in her classes
she was warm, and never teased
people who wore glasses

She smiled at people she didn't know,
and knew everybody's name
she was a creature of pure delight
kindness was her game

But gradually the children turned
and shunned her everyday
but she carried bravely on
skipping all the way

She tried to be benevolent
but her heart and soul cried
and like a flame her spirit first
flickered and then died

Her gentle nature soon was crushed
her mind became quite numb
to the wave of abuse that crushed her soul
she joined the ranks of the dumb

One day a star fell down
but found no empathy with man
so it shed its human body
and back to the heavens it ran.
