Fame And Fortune-Ii Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Fame And Fortune-Ii

Coveted was Kunti by gods five,
Draupadi by Kunti's five sons naïve,
As women of virtue
Both still held with rare hue—
Fame at fortune's door seems to arrive.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Kunti, the mother of Pandu princes of Mahabharata was blessed by a boon to beget five sons by five heavenly gods. Draupadi married five Pandu brothers. And still, both were recognised as great virtuous women (sati) . Of course this is a tongue-in-cheek observation, reality being different.

Dear sir, you have cutely delineated this limerick bringing the theme from Mahabharat....Kunti and Draupadi. Nice work.

There has been a superstition in India following which no one reads this Epic fully. Perhaps because the cousins fought a Mahabharata war. But I have read it fully, all the hundred thousand verses, and poetically translated selected two thousand of them. It's a beautiful piece of creative work dear to my heart, labour of love, and feel it can be called the Fifth Veda. Thanks.
