Family Archipelago Poem by Phil Soar

Family Archipelago

My family are like islands
Now the kids have left the home
Like archipelagos clustered around us
Volatile at times, as if volcanic
Spouting vitriol at the endless turmoil
When separate lives become complex
Returning home, they make for the comfort blanket
That is the nest they began in
Loved in
Lived in
Laughed in
Cried in
Then only to return to their own island
They created for themselves
Knowing solace isn't far away
