Family Foundations Poem by Mark Heathcote

Family Foundations

In principle, all want solid foundations-
a good upbringing and happy-life.
Strong family roots, healthy relations
find themselves a loving husband or wife.
In principle, that's what we all-set-out-
to accomplish, not that stale atmosphere-
you can cut with a knife, get handed-a-clout.
Because in your heart you're a pioneer
because in your soul you're a forerunner-
who sets his/her own high standards others?
Tempt to follow at a future juncture.
Families now fragment, hit the buffers-
having, lack of structure all-doing-own-
thing, following, own path, course windblown.
