Fate of Man
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)

My heart is groaning
My soul is moaning
My lips are shivering
My sobbing breast is wailing
Because terrible death
Waits outside my chamber
Death beckons me always
By nodding his skinny finger
Death gapes its wide mouth
To swallow my tortured soul
I elapsed long time in this planet
But all my deeds are foul
No way to escape from his iron clutch
Hide and sick is not feasible with menacing fate
At a precise time i have to depart
Leaving aside mundane love and hate
Death resides in an etherial world
Somewhere in heaven's above
Comes at the behest of God
Manifests least pity or love
i have passed my sinful days
Romping with trifle things and relishing in delight
I am too feeble before the mighty death
To lodge a protest or wage a fight
When I shut my rapacious eyes
Sordid days float in my mind
An unknown fear nibbles at my heart
No way to abscond, I find.
In morns of dew drops
When I sit in a vile or pensive mood
Flickers of ominous death comes in sense
And I began to brood
I did nothing worthwhile
My life is only waste of breath
I have quite forgotten that
I have to face terrible death
Very soon a time will come
I will be burriedin my mound
No trace of my being
Will be, in the world, found
In my grave I will be alone
And will find no option to bargain
I have to face my fate, and
Earthen man will turn earth again.
