It was yesteryear
That was spent with fear
We had no livelihood
Everything depended on neighborhood
It gave us no shock
As we were not having any stock
Yet people came to help and boosted
Our sagging moral and certainly trusted
Do you think it is part of culture?
Where people rush to make your future
Take care for your well being
And make you one day powerful king
Many stories are circulated
But they are with truth and quietly related
Courtesans helped their mentor
And brought them back in power as savior
Rajasthan * is such place known for valor
Its rulers were sympathetic and always worked for
People and stood for their integrity
Rana Pratap* stands for such name in its totality
He was tried for many times to be subdued
Land was plundered and reduced
To rubble and king had to flee
To wage on struggle to make people free
He had nothing to eat
Depended only on grass and sweated
Yet nothing lowered his spirit for struggle
Help was rushed to him in remote jungle*
Country remembers his name with pride
Even though there was much dissension and divide
He stood for independence and name
He is still worthy name called and claimed
“I may eat grass but not surrender”
He had claimed but refused central order
Kingdom can be taken back but not the honor
That was shining example for refusing the favor
*Rajasthan.. desert state in India
*Rana Pratap…rules’s name
Gary Loftis Pretty amazing story of a brave man who didnt believe in surrender. I had to look it up since i live in a closed minded country and never learned it in school. I am still reading about this, but i wanted to say that i love the flow and rhymes here. I also love to learn something new every day. Thanks for helping me and thanks for sharing!
