Fiery Serpent

Fiery Serpent

Venom of fire stings
Small yet telling lasting swell
Pain and fiery itch
Till the serpent's death and hell
Suffer the eyes of Heaven

A great depiction of a deadly snake and the effects of its venom. Thought provoking closure lines.

And this suffering is, in the end, just an itch--a discomfort not at all different than that of a tiny fire ant, because the joy and peace and light of Heaven will drown it out until all we can remember is an itch--not the fiery pain of the Serpent's bite!

I say that it is one of my favorites because there's this beautiful piece of truth embedded in your poem: we are all suffering the lasting pain of the Fiery Serpent's bite. But in the end that Serpent will die and burn in --it will not last the sword of the Lord of Heaven.

You've excellently and cleverly deepened this poem! I love the analogy that you expanded the fire ant poem into! I actually think that this is one of my new favorites!
