Fighting To Live Poem by Ifeanyi John Nwokeabia

Fighting To Live

When the head horribly bang
Ululating like a gong in the heat of dance
Drawing the veins holding the brains
Never give up, fight to live.

When siren hoot like owl in belly
Intonating the tone of voice in speech
To obstruct a visitor's ear from hearing
Never give up, fight to live.

When the legs grow faint and feeble
Unable to exhibit the flow of life in them
Maybe amputated or stretchered
Keep reverberating in unending laughter
Never give up, fight to live.

When the entire body loses its strength
Trust on the power of another to walk
To eat, to urinate, to bathe and to lay in bed.
Never resort to timeless weeping
Keep you mind at alert, fight to live.

When it seems like all hope is lost
Every road treaded, speaks angrily at feet
No roof agrees to shade the body at night
Turning a heap of waste to a bearable home
Never give up, fight to live.

Even when the world folds like mat after juma'at
Painting cloud of darkness on every living sight
Like a rock, stand firm, don't give in to it
Because not every promise is meant to be fulfilled
And heaven and hell are one, so, fight to live.
