Flowing alone without you
Is a sickness beyond all herbs
For your presence gives energy to my being
Our confluence at Lokoja
Is always a grace unmerited
Because our marriage makes us powerful
I originated from Niger in the far North
And you are from Benue in the far East
But our differences never strained us
Rather your absence, left me empty-
Like a baby whose mother is late
I cried for your tender sweet suckling
Each time I can't feel your touch on me
As we have in unity taken a surname 'river'
May we never see divorce as an option
'Niger' and 'Benue' may always be our roots
But our hearts should be loaded, heavily
With love that's beyond bridges-hatred,
Favouritism, ethnicity, corruption, violence
So as to build a single empire of honey
Where medals won are in countless batches.
