Fire Poem by Dr Vidya Hariharan

Fire

Fire
In the depth of my belly
There burns a fire
Set alight by desires
Unspoken, undefined.
This fire spreads its flames
To heart, eyes and lips
When it faces wrongs
And terrible injustice.
This fire burns my insides
To cinders when I keep quiet,
Suppress my livid voice
When wounds I witness.
I dance, I smile, I sing,
I live an ordinary life,
But inside there's another me,
Who scorches in the fire.
