We shared more than words,
more than the thoughts behind the words,
more even than the feelings shaping thoughts.
You and I recognized a common name,
like the red light at night's edge
a hopeful traveler sees in an alien land.
We cannot finally know
if each had ended an old year alone
or both had begun a new one together.
Beautiful. Again feels like I've influenced you. The dawn, in which thought transcends language and feelings transcend thought and everything else is transcended by something. The unreachable. Reminds me of Gadamer's metaphor of crossing horizons.
This is the kind of interaction we all hope to have. That first conversation, the kind that makes you feel like the search is over and you're no longer a hopeful traveler in a foreign land so to speak lol. If you've had this kind of conversation I must say I truly envy you! Also I love the last verse: We cannot finally know if each had ended an old year alone or both had begun a new one together. I'd gather, that it's both and thus both lines ended up in the poem for which I'm grateful. A lighthearted, simple poem that captures a beautiful transaction and frames it. Nicely done! ~Nika
