First Day At School Poem by Terence George Craddock

First Day At School

Rating: 5.0

on the first day of school
parent blockhead puppet
takes child young branch

to school pushes young branch

through classroom door
through schoolroom door
symbolic educational door

just opened for young branch

still sporting fresh brown bark
a few imagination leaves still sprouting
in left hand schoolcase carrying

unique precious insight creativity still carrying

inside axe head teacher
inside axe head teacher is waiting
is standing at black board

pointer in hand teaching

2x2=4 conformity teaching
conformity unified thought
standardized thought killing

originality inspiration spontaneity killing

at classroom desks silent sad sit
all clone little student puppets looking
all sitting all exactly the sad same

what is this educational meaning?

not cut from the same clothe
nor cut from the same branches
but all branches cut the same
