First Love. Forever Love... Poem by Almedia Knight-Oliver

First Love. Forever Love...

It's close to two decades since you've been
gone- I'm still where you left me and getting along…
The years are doing their best to hold me up
each minute, each day, and year

Though, much has changed since you been gone: our
oldest sons are up in age and the other two years younger
We had grands before you left and now have greats; too mostly my
siblings crossed over and baby sister and me wondering whose next?

I'll forever sing thanks to you each day and every single night dream.
I remember that worrying, wondering, and doubting evening when
lying in bed, you appeared in the doorway looking my way, then nodded
your head in agreement and disappeared to whence you came.
,
Not without leaving your blessing to "Him" to take your place in bed, and
be dad, grand, and great dad of the family we had created in the bushes, in
the dark, and everywhere and anywhere out the light and eyes of folks who
considered love a sin, instead of the most beautiful thing that can't be seen!

Over the years, awareness, much nurturing and caring, my love ripened,
dropped off my heart like a plum off the branch of a tree, and into
his heart and our home, and never to lie rotting on the ground to die, for
" true love is the ripe fruit of a lifetime…"
