First Time Meet Poem by Josh Burnett

First Time Meet

Anxious, scared of what you may think.
When at first we meet.
Sweaty palms, nervous as hell.
Will it all go well?
Thumping heart inside my chest.
Getting choked on my own spit.
Fast pace from one spot to the next
And then back again.
You pull up, this is it.
Heart stops. Knowing this is the only shot.
Meeting you halfway I say hey.
You answer back with a smile.
Knees shaking as I walk you
And open the car door.
Slamming shut, I walk around the front.
Wondering if you're watching me.
Watching how I carry myself.
I'm hoping it's a good display.
I wipe the sweat off my face.
I sit down beside you with nothing to say.
I go through my mind as the engine starts
But all my words are lost.
I speak my only thought
And ask how are you?
That's all I had to say to start it off.
As I sit and listen to that beautiful voice talk.
