Five Minutes Of Spring Poem by Elena Sandu

Five Minutes Of Spring

Rating: 5.0

I hurry to bring out the recycled plastic
On the way to the garbage station
My eyes, enchanted, slide from side to side
The gorgeous downhill cherry tree
cracked open its first flowers.
My neighbour’s peach tree
in full gorgeous blossom
such splendid look of the blue sky
with strong shades of pink
befriending the sun.
How beautiful, how warm!
Three children running towards me
Surprised for seeing them home
In a week day,
asked the older brother
“-No school today? ”
“-No it’s Showa’s day.”
Yuu kun in short sleeves
runs to me happy
I give him only a high five
See him disappointed
But I cannot give a hug
Nobody share hugs here
the girls could be scared.
The older, primary school brother
Would be embarrassed
he’s got a guest, may be his girlfriend
look how happy are their smiles!
Let those be kept wide.
Yuu kun forgave me
and with a widen smile too
Waving good bye runs towards
the little patch of snow
kept still by a hilled forest shadow.
I cannot help but smile too,
so very grateful
For my five minutes of spring.
With children smiles
blossom beauty
and sun warmth filled
I slowly walk back home
to do my errands.
