Flicker Poem by G J Salgado

Flicker

She found it hard to control her own mind and emotions
As she dabbled in curses, magic, and potions
She held her secrets but it all came with a price
You couldn't tame her she was the ultimate artist of disguise
Her instincts weren't ever at all shy
Born to rise she always spoke her mind
At times it was hard to distinguish herself from a wild animal
The forces of her blood were tribal
Voices of the night would often hinder
The wolves would howl and she'd answer
They spoke a language so deep it rattled her bones
She continued her howls and thrusting moans
Running through the rush of the moon's last hour of dusk was torture
Daybreak upon her breath and the dawn approaching her back she tangled with her own forfeiture
Dancing with what was left of the moonlit skies
She saved the last dance for her first sunrise
They met somewhere just in between
It was love at first; a beauty that no other hybrid had ever seen
Sun-kissed by the rain she returned to human and waited for the thunder
Never blinking an eye; transforming by the spell she was under
She was struck by lightning every time she moved
Everything she touched turned to fire and it burned
They didn't understand her beauty or the beast trapped inside her
Misunderstood and nothing else to claim; she changed her name and watched the flames flicker
