Flame Poem by G J Salgado

Flame

I played with the thought of you coming back again
I counted stars as I held onto the reins
I promised myself that I wouldn't pretend

I hoped you wouldn't notice if I bit my lip this time
I bite myself when I look in your eyes
I try to control myself every time
I'm infatuated with you so I'm not going to lie

I can't seem to forget you when I put you in the back of my mind
I hold on to the moment because I don't know how long it will last
I keep you close to my chest to let you know you're mine
The sun is rising so the moon and I are fading fast

When I think about it I begin to fade slowly
Capture me and I'll stay a little longer
The fire between us burns out quietly
Watch me disappear in its flames so that I won't linger
